What We Believe
WE ACCEPT THE NEW TESTAMENT AUTHORITY Our authority is Jesus. God said, “Listen to Him.” Matthew 17:5
WE FOLLOW THE NEW TESTAMENT PLAN OF SALVATION
-Faith - “And without faith, it is impossible to please Him.” Hebrews 11:6
-Repentance - “Unless you repent, you will all perish.” Luke 13:3
-Confession - “. . .it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved . . .” Romans 10:10
-Baptism - “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” Mark 16:16
-Faithful Living - “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12
WE WEAR THE NEW TESTAMENT NAME “The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” Acts 11:26 “All the disciples of Christ send greetings.” Romans 16:16
WE OBSERVE NEW TESTAMENT COMMUNION “Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19 “On the first day of the week, we came together to break bread.” Acts 20:7 “A man ought to examine himself before he eats the bread and drink the cup.” I Corinthians 11:28
WE PRACTICE NEW TESTAMENT STEWARDSHIP “. . .the Lord has commanded that those who preach the Gospel should receive their living from the Gospel.” I Corinthians 9:14 “On the first day of the week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income.” I Corinthians 16:2
WE LIVE THE NEW TESTAMENT LIFE “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, the breaking of bread, and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 “Grow in grace.” II Peter 3:18 “Be faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you a crown of life.” Revelation 2:10
WE PREACH THE NEW TESTAMENT GOSPEL “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned.” Galatians 1:8 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20
First Christian Church is an independent, non-denominational church. We are part of the spiritual heritage of the Restoration Movement. FCC has been loving and serving the Lord and this community since 1851.
First Christian Church of Warsaw, Indiana is proud to be identified with the Restoration Movement in America. This fellowship of congregations is not a denomination: we are associated together simply on the basis of following the Bible, God’s Word to mankind, as the one and only rule of faith and practice. The Restoration Movement has always been (and will always be) about restoring God’s inspired Word to its rightful place of authority in the local church. We reject as authoritative all humanly conceived creeds, confessions of faith or dogmas that might be used to “define” who we are or what we believe! Such human documents tend to divide true believers into separate, and often exclusive, groups (also known as denominations). Following the Scriptures alone unites God’s people into the powerful and dynamic church He intended to create.
Since the early 1800’s believers have been waking up to the fact that denominational ties often create doctrinal expectations and practices that burden the local congregation both financially and theologically. Ours is but one of several thousand congregations that chooses to be completely independent of such human authority. We strive to be led by both the Spirit of God and the Word of God, exclusive of any and all levels of human authority not specifically prescribed by God Himself. We are Christians only, not Lutheran Christians, Methodist Christians, Presbyterians or any of the many other “types” of believers. We strongly believe that following God’s Word alone makes one a Christian. Period! And it is that close relationship with Christ that provides both our current salvation and our eternal home in heaven!
